'Auhea 'Oe E Ke Kumu

Produced for the 'Aha Punana Leo, this video is a call for teachers to help revitalize the Hawaiian language, which was saved from the brink of extinction by the extraordinary efforts of those who established the Hawaiian language immersion preschools in the 1980's.

Includes scenes of pre-school children enrolled in the Punana Leo (language nests) at Honolulu, Waiau (O'ahu), Wailuku (Maui), Puhi (Kaua'i), Hilo and Keaukaha (Hawai'i island) in 1990.

Featuring language scholars and teachers Larry Kauanoe Kimura, Kauanoe Kamana, Lolena Nicholas, Na'ilima Gaison, Kaho'okele Crabbe, Kekuhi Kanahele and Puanani Wilhelm. Narrated by Tuti Kanahele.
