La 'Ike - Visioning Day
A day of planning for South Kona
On October 8, 2001, the 'Ahahui Kaiaulu Imi I Ka Pono No Kona Hema ("group seeking righteousness for South Kona") sponsored a day of visioning and planning for Hawai'i island's South Kona coast. The event was held at Paleaku Gardens Peace Sanctuary.
Kona area
kupuna (elders) and residents related their cherished traditions regarding fishing, agriculture, place names and the
ahupua'a system. Together with county of Hawai'i officials, representatives from the Kamehameha Schools and community organizations, they began to envision a future for South Kona.
This transcript documents the full day of panels and presentations. (The video,
Kona Hema - South Kona, available elsewhere on this website, contains portions of these presentations.)
